Wry comparison

I NOTE Andrew Parrott’s calculation of average third division attendances as being just under 600 (Letters, 7 October) in an attempt to ridicule David McLetchie’s comment that
the recent march through Edinburgh in support of independence attracted “less people than a struggling third division football team”.

I have to point out there is “a struggling third division football team” that attracts home gates of up to 40,000. Mr Parrott’s figure of around 5,000 is comfortably covered by that. Perhaps it is Mr Parrott who is “out of touch with affairs in Scotland” in this instance, and Mr McLetchie was being a bit more wry in his comparison than it first appeared?

Should Mr Parrott be ignorant of the shenanigans down Ibrox way, I am sure he will soon be enlightened when the decision of the First Tier Tax Tribunal makes headlines later this month.
