Wind knocked out of FM’s sails

EUROTUNNEL is planning to run a £220 million “interconnector” power cable through its service tunnel to provide back-up from French nuclear power stations for the times when wind turbines do not supply enough power to the national grid.

First Minister Alex Salmond will not be pleased since he was hoping to sell Scotland’s very expensive wind electricity to England via a proposed subsea connector.

His pious hope was that the English would want to buy this expensive Scottish wind electricity rather than cheap French nuclear. And he has a degree in
economics?

Yet another of Salmond’s expensive – to the electricity consumer – green dreams turns out to have no credibility and is no more than wishful thinking.
