Who we are
Muslim women’s organisation Amina last week launched a national campaign at the Scottish Parliament, where it introduced its touring exhibition.
Guests included MSPs, representatives of the police, schools, as well as campaigning organisations including Amnesty International.
Ministers Joe Fitzpatrick and Shona Robison voiced their backing for the campaign and have sponsored the exhibition at Holyrood, which includes photographs of Muslim women displaying their own personal messages to express who they really are.
We are urging MSPs to sign our declaration in support of our campaign for a Scotland where all people can flourish and be themselves, free from being prejudged or labelled.
Our campaign, entitled I Speak For Myself, aims to empower Muslim women to share personal messages with fellow Scots so that together, they can challenge damaging stereotypes.
The campaign has been launched in response to negative perceptions around Islam and Muslim women. This campaign is the first of its kind. We’re passionate about empowering every Muslim woman to stand up to negative stereotypes and be able to say to everyone in Scotland, “This is who I am”.
