Unfair share

Your news report (“Easter Ross is ‘dumping ground for wind farms’”, 18 July) includes a singularly bizarre response from Highland Council: “The location of development proposals is a matter for the applicants, not the council.”

Of course wind farm developers determine the location of their proposed new wind farms but it is Highland councillors who decide whether or not to grant planning permission. Or are we missing something?

Here in the Ardross area of Easter Ross we already have by far the greatest density of wind turbines in the north Highlands and the council will imminently be considering a proposal for an additional 34 turbines, each 125m high. Councillors need to appreciate that “enough is enough” and that no single
community should be required to bear such a hugely disproportionate share of wind farm
developments.
