Two wheels good

I READ with interest Douglas Bain’s tirade against cyclists (Letters, 12 October) and came to the conclusion that he has already disappeared up his own A-road – or is it a dead end?

Having driven on the Continent, including Denmark, and cycled more than 600 miles on a tour there, I can freely state that I found the stress level both on drivers and cyclists to be a lot less than in the UK.

I would, however, point out that the craze for young lads on BMX bikes with only one brake, or no brakes at all, is a danger to themselves, to other road users and to pedestrians. Their parents, schools and the police do not seem to be able to ensure their bikes are fit for purpose.

Perhaps if Mr Bain ever has to attend hospital for stress-related or a smoking-related illness he will be advised by a non-smoking specialist who has chosen to cycle to work!
