Thinking in train
The Bank of Scotland survey (your report, 19 October) suggests that it is much better financially for those working in the cities to commute rather than buy a house close to their work.
There is no consideration given to those who live in the areas considered to be commuter towns, especially those who live close to the stations.
An example is in the Falkirk area, where the council charges for the station parking at Grahamston (which lies more than half empty) and Falkirk High stations thereby pushing the commuters out to Polmont station, where the parking is free.
People who live near Polmont station now find they are paying council tax for the privilege of living in a council/railway car park.
Both the council and the railways need to sort this out and provide adequate parking facilities so that public transport can be used without the great inconvenience experienced by the station neighbours.
