Bob Diamond, the former chief executive of Barclays Bank, gave a solid gold and remarkable three-hour performance to the committee of MPs in giving his account of what he knew or didn’t know about the disclosures of the recent scandals surrounding the bank (your report, 5 July).

His Teflon-coated presentation was straight from the Tony Blair finishing school and can only be described in one word – unbelievable.
