Shared monarch
In response to Steuart Campbell’s query (Letters, 16 July) the monarch, as head of the Commonwealth, has nothing whatever to do with the case.
Granting Scotland independence requires the abrogation of article I of the Treaty of Union which created the United Kingdom.
The status quo ante will then prevail, with the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England sharing the same monarch as they did from 1603 to 1707.
