Scraps of wisdom
ACCORDING to weekend reports, the City of Edinburgh Council is today delivering two containers plus bags and instructions on the recycling of food waste, to be uplifted once a week.
I would be interested to know the cost per capita of this exerise.
There is no way that I would ever have more than half a bag of edible leftovers.
Being of pre-Second World War vintage, I was taught to use up edible leftovers and everything else went on the compost heap.
This is not possible if you live in a flat, but surely it is possible to pass these leftovers on to someone who has access to an allotment?

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 07:43 AMOf course but being a pre war child, do you remember that council composting your waste for you? They were keen to get egg shells and the like as soil improvers. That is all the council is doing now. They will lift your compostables and compost them then sell the compost. Most likely its either cost neutral or cost negative.
