Scots plea

I see the National Theatre of Scotland has appointed ­another English director – Laurie Sansom – to succeed the first English director (your report, 24 October). This follows the appointment of an English head of Creative Scotland – Andrew Dixon – whose decisions have since created a storm.

The Edinburgh International Festival is currently searching for a new director. Is it too much to hope that we get a Scot?

I am an internationalist but I believe that at a time when Scotland is debating and defining its identity in the world it is important that its cultural institutions reflect that debate. I also know that there are many talented people in Scottish cultural life. Why are they being ignored?
