Scotland is ‘haven for handout junkies’

The fallout since Johann
Lamont, the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, took off her rose-tinted glasses and told the harsh economic truth has been almost
seismic.

Judging by the wealth of correspondence on these pages, what it has also done is to show only too clearly what a left-wing haven for hand-out junkies Scotland really is. This is exactly the kind of state-dependent Scotland that the SNP and its many socialist fellow travellers want to create.

Has anyone ever actually stopped to think why people such as the discredited
socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan or another former socialist MSP, Rosie Kane, think that independence is a truly wonderful idea and wholeheartedly support the SNP? Fortunately, in their case, the public soon saw through the glib, unrealistic nonsense and platitudes they spouted.

Does no-one remember that Alex Salmond, Kenny MacAskill and Roseanna Cunningham were once expelled from the SNP for their ambitions to turn Scotland into a micro-managed, over-
regulated, over-taxed socialist state?

The sad truth is that should Scotland ever become fully independent, the majority of those currently in receipt of the universal benefits would find that gravy train screeching to a shuddering halt as financial truths became apparent – but, by that time it would be far, far too late.

This would not worry the SNP, of course (or any of the rest of the MSPs), who would still enjoy their generous
salaries and perks in the Scottish Parliament.

By that time the “big lie” would have had the desired effect and the rest of us would be left to pick up the pieces.
