Schools beware social network
WHILE Martha Payne from Lochgilphead is to be congratulated on raising money for a worthwhile charity (News, 17 June), it would be better for her to use other means than taking photographs at school.
Bearing in mind the serious damage done to many individuals (both teachers and pupils) through the use of photos and blogs, there should be a ban on the use of mobile phones and other social network instruments while pupils are in school.
The seeming benefits of social networks are often outbalanced by the damage they do. Scotland on Sunday and other newspapers seem to feel it is a good thing to include blogs in the correspondence page. But as the posters of these blogs rarely include their own names, others, along with myself, cannot be bothered to read them. It is also a waste of time and space to be continually publishing polls on different topics where only a few thousand individuals are approached.
