Save rugby’s soul
I’m SORRY to see our rugby heroes signing up to the Accies’ misguided manifesto (your report, 11 October).
To keep up with the English rugby Joneses, the historic cradle of Scottish rugby could be transformed into a modern sporting giant’s stomping ground.
Too bad if Stockbridge gets tramped underfoot, deafened by the giant’s roar and overshadowed by its massive frame.
More people, more noise, more money. More shops, more traffic, more money. More sporting glory, more money.
A French rugby journalist once declared that the soul of Scottish rugby is kept at Raeburn Place. That essential spirit was embodied in pure sport untainted by any ulterior motives.
Now it seems that the guardians of that precious soul are hell-bent on selling it to Mammon.
