Saintly patience

Following the opening day of sale of Edinburgh International Book Festival tickets on Friday (your report, 23 June), I would like to thank our audience, whose loyalty and enthusiasm for our event is truly heartwarming.

We are aware that with so many people trying to book tickets on the opening day it was a frustratingly slow experience for some customers, but it is enormously gratifying that literary stars and lesser known authors from Scotland and further afield are able to attract such extraordinary interest.

Although service on the website was extremely slow at times, our customers were wonderfully patient, and I am delighted we can report our best ever first day of sales.

Although more than 50 events sold out on Friday, there are 800 authors in the programme, so there are plenty of tickets left for events, workshops, talks and debates across both the adult and children’s programme.

We are very much looking forward to another vibrant Book Festival in Charlotte Square Gardens this August.
