Ruined concert
I APPLAUD and support the variety of Fringe events at the Edinburgh festivals, but have to complain bitterly to the selfish individuals who proposed (and the City Fathers who sanctioned) the pop concert in Festival Square on Saturday night.
The excessive, machine-made noise was offensive and intrusive as it penetrated into the Usher Hall on the other side of the road. It destroyed any chance of enjoying the concert by the London Symphony Orchestra and Edinburgh Festival Chorus.

Which ignoramus sanctioned the license for a pop/rock concert to take place in Festival Square in Edinburgh on Saturday night?
The over-amplified, ear-splitting racket emanating from the “concert” on Festival Square all but destroyed a superb classical concert in the Usher Hall.
When the best part of 2,000 people paid good money to watch the superb Valery Gergiev conducting the LSO and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, the last thing they expected was to have noise permeate from outside the Usher Hall. Think again whoever it was that allowed this to happen. Not everyone wants to listen to amplified music.
