Rowling row

You write (your report, 27 September) that JK Rowling has defended her “heroin addiction, self-harm and teenage sex” novel The Casual Vacancy by saying: “That’s the nature of literature and art. That’s the way it goes.”

No it isn’t. That is the choice the writer makes. With her wealth and fame she could have chosen to buck the dismal trend of modern writing. There are many stories of courage and integrity waiting to be told. I am disappointed that she chose not to tell them.
