Restrict religion to RE classes

THE debate about taking children to kirk services (Online Forum, 14 October) seems to have overlooked the fact that many Scottish non-denominational schools take pupils to their local kirk, often the kirk associated with the minister who (inappropriately) regularly preaches to the pupils in school assembly.

The parents are not consulted about this although they can withdraw their child, but who wants their child singled out as if they had been naughty, or is not good enough to go to the kirk? Let’s restrict religion in schools to RE classes.
