The anomalies that you highlight regarding students from the European Union and Northern Ireland are only part of the story (Perspective, 15 September).

There seems to be a growing trade in properties on the Scottish side of the Border which can be used as accommodation addresses by English parents sending their offspring to universities here.

And with the kind of incentives that are being provided by a half-baked scheme, who can blame them?
