Perfect satire
Seeing through self-absorbed politicians of all kinds at their grubby worst and unerringly noting that the emperor has no clothes, no matter how uncomfortable it may make some, is a gift few cartoonists possess. Your cartoon (28 July) expresses so much in so little space and in such a humorous way it is the perfect example of the art.
The First Minister’s attempt not to be left out the limelight in the Olympics opening was, in truth, pathetic and embarrassing.
Mr Salmond is as far away as ever from knowing the first thing about statesmanship and when to speak and, perhaps more importantly, when to keep quiet.
