Should there be time after compiling no doubt lengthy lists of Olympians and Paralympians deserving of gongs,

those responsible for managing the honours system (your report, 8 September) might take a moment to consider the quiet dignity, selflessness and fortitude of Jane Nicklinson during the agonising years and months leading to the sad demise of her late husband, Tony.
