Fresh from his diplomatic triumphs in London, Mitt Romney appears to be endorsing an Israeli military strike to forestall Iran developing its alleged nuclear weapons programme (your report, 30 July).

Most informed observers agree that Israel has the capability to deploy something between 200 and 300 nuclear weapons.

Just imagine the outcry if a Russian or Chinese politician went to Iran and made similar comments, encouraging an Iranian pre-emptive strike on Israel.
