My pie, baby
Steak pies were not “developed” in Scotland by Greggs staff (your report, 18 September).
They were first introduced into Scotland by the Piemaker on Edinburgh’s South Bridge when it opened its doors on 23 August, 1995.
These were made from chunky Aberdeen Angus beef wrapped in a special yummie puff pastry.
It was only several years later that the Greggs steak “bake”, a poor copy, arrived. It was not “developed”.
Today Piemaker still sells the same recipe steak pie but it has grown to be a man’s meal, weighing almost half a pound. or 240 grams to be exact.
We are a Scottish institution and soon the name and logo will be trademarked for major expansion.
