Munich marker

Though my expertise in sport amounts to having come in last in races at school, I am a firm supporter of fairness and justice. That is the basis of my interest in the upcoming Olympic Games.

It concerns me that the
Olympic committee has rejected pleas to hold a minute of silence as a mark of respect to the Israeli team who were murdered by the Black September group at the 1972 Olympic Games held in Munich.

It is difficult to understand when equivalent respect was shown to mark the accidental death of a Georgian competitor before the Olympic Games in Canada. However, some individuals are keeping a minute of silence on Friday, 27 July at 11am throughout the country. They will stop whatever they are doing, wherever they are, to show that people are important.
