ME research vital

It IS grossly misleading to report that “viruses have nothing to do with chronic fatigue syndrome”, or Myalgic Encephalopathy –ME – (your report, 18 September). What the latest Columbia University study actually found was that two specific viruses – XMRV and pMLV – are not the trigger for this long-term, chronic condition that affects more than 20,000 men, women and children in Scotland.

But other viruses may well have a role to play – which means that further investment in biomedical research must be a top priority.
