Letter: Power blow

I wonder if the recent attack by former Labour MP, Brian Wilson, on the SNP’s Kenneth Gibson MSP has anything to do with the fact that Mr Wilson is a paid consultant for Ayrshire Power Limited, which is currently seeking to build a coal-fired power station in Mr Gibson’s constituency – a proposal which Mr Gibson has vehemently opposed?

Craig Wilson, Beith

Is anyone really surprised at Wilson's duplicity? - look at what is happening in Glasgow. we've had the gamut of criminality now they threaten the job of a disabled kid if his Labour councillor mother didn't vote for their budget. Must be the most corrupt political body in Western Europe. When are the people of Glasgow going to catch on?

The REAL power blow is that over recent weeks wind generation of electricity has OFTEN been less than 1000MW, at times below 500MW and even below 100MW.....With demise of coal, nuclear and gas generation Scotland in the future will experience many disastrous periods through lack of power..........'Wind' propaganda will not solve this but do politicians here and in Westminster have the intelligence to realise this?

The former Labour Energy Minister is also a non-executive Director of Amec Nuclear Holdings AND, just to hedge his bets, is the UK CEO of Irish renewables company Airtricity. This in addition to a further 3 consultancy roles with French, German, and Spanish energy companies. (Source: The Daily Telegraph)

Brian Wilson was a major player in the "Labour Says No" campaign against a Scottish Parliament in 1979. He, Robin Cook (much to his later regret) ,Neil Kinnock, and George Cunningham-Labour MP (who introduced the gerrymanderig 40% rule) bear a heavy responsibility for leaving Scotland with no protection against Thatcher.
