Let there be light

What is disappointing about Neil Barber’s letter about rainbows (29 October) is its cocksure tone. He may be modestly hiding his light under a bushel (excuse the Biblical allusion) but I suspect his qualifications and achievements in science are closer to my own (O-level chemistry) than to those of the many eminent scientists happy to be identified publicly as theists or at least agnostics, not just in the past but today.

Professor John Lennox’s riposte to Richard Dawkins – God’s Undertaker – Has Science Buried God? – is liberally furnished with quotations from their writings.

Accepting that organisms have evolved does not necessarily imply atheism and it is a conceit to suggest there is simply nothing to discuss.
