Historic commitment
I CAN reassure Tim Cornwell – and anyone else interested in Scotland’s built heritage – that Historic Scotland remains fully committed to protecting that rich legacy.
This is not simply a promise; it is a statutory requirement. The Scottish Government is committed to championing and safeguarding our historic environment to ensure that it supports the people of Scotland.
I have been very impressed by the knowledge, expertise, skills and commitment of Historic Scotland staff, and the high quality and range of the services they provide.
Historic Scotland’s role goes beyond simply assessing buildings – it also invests in traditional skills needed to protect our historic buildings, for example through the new Scottish Conservation Centre in Stirling.
The agency also continues to invest strongly in the historic environment through its grants programme, which has had its funding protected by the Scottish Government.
I was delighted to announce just last week £7.69 million City Heritage Trusts funding and will be addressing the Historic Scotland conference on 29 February where I look forward to making a further significant investment announcement.
