Global power
The Scottish government’s “deference to the government of China” (Perspective, 22 June) exemplifies the realism of SNP foreign policy.
China is the main, if not the sole supplier of the essential component of wind technology.
Hence no matter how idealistic one wishes a government to be, “realpolitik” governs international relations.
Moreover this example illustrates the inextricable link between domestic and foreign policy. Doesn’t it also show how in a globalised world, national sovereignty is limited by economic interdependence.
