Gaelic omerta
Maggie Cunningham, the new head of BBC Alba, may well be pleased with her channel’s autumn schedule (Features, 10 October).
Perhaps the “contented soporific feel” of Farpaisean Chon-chaorach will indeed be revolutionised by canine head-cams.
One thing, however, that definitely won’t be featuring in Alba’s new schedule under her headship is anything remotely controversial.
There will be no debate about land ownership in the Highlands, for example; and especially there will be a continuing omertà on discussion about the moribund state of the Gaelic language itself, and the dismal failure of Bòrd na Gàidhlig to even acknowledge how desperate the situation has become, despite the millions spent.
