The Scottish Football League consists of more than Rangers, so it is surprising its mandarins would disregard the voices of fans who feed money into football and attempt to gerrymander the rules to let Rangers continue playing in the top flight.

It also casts the game in a bad light when the threat of losing the Sky TV franchise cash should shout the loudest of all. If Scottish football is in such a parlous state it deserves to collapse and restart with fairness and accountability at the forefront.
