Farmers deserve level playing field

INSTEAD of using taxpayers’ money to bail out meat producers, “Tax breaks would help meat industry” (News, 8 July), our Government would be better employed bringing in and policing regulations to ban the import of meat, eggs and dairy products cheaply produced in farming systems which do not meet the animal welfare standards required of Scottish farmers.

Our farmers should not be put at a disadvantage for reducing the pain and suffering of the many millions of animals and birds which are reared and killed in Scotland every year.
