Fantasy politics

The Prime Minister has floated the notion that we should deny housing benefit to those under 25. He tells us it is to discourage the development of a benefit culture among the young, but everyone knows it is yet another cut, directed at those who do not vote for him, or even vote at all.

Mr Cameron’s claim that it will save the taxpayers vast sums of money is fantasy. Such a move would create social problems, the solving of which would cost many times more than the sum he quotes as the reward for stealing benefit from the young.

I wonder what he will dream up next. Taking his principle aim as a money-saving exercise, increasing the minimum age for holding a driving licence, purchasing alcohol, entering a football stadium or smoking to 25 would also save a lot of money and lives. Gosh, I think Dave is on to something here!
