The OECD growth predictions given in your article (7 September) show the UK at -0.7 per cent, within the normal statistical 
errors and guesswork inherent in any such forecasts 
and, therefore, little different from France’s -0.4 per cent and 
Germany’s -0.5 per cent.

Such forecasts are all we have, but your headline, that the UK “joins Italy and Japan at the bottom of economic pile”, estimated respectively at -2.9 per cent and -2.3 per cent, is grossly misleading.
