Crop deficit
As the Roman emperors hid their problems beneath bread and circuses, the Westminster government is adopting the same strategy; the only difference is it has not yet warned the public of the inevitable sharp rise in food prices due to the “sunless summer”. Cereal crops have not filled and many fields cannot hold a combine and if they can the soil structure is so damaged that next year’s crops, if they can be planted, will suffer.
Livestock too, like humans, thrives on sunlight and has not filled its potential at grass, therefore needing supplementary feeding, which will be in scarce supply.
However, as long as the London Games are in sunshine, all must be well with the economy!
