Contrite move
The Prime Minister chose to visit Rosyth on the day the independence referendum was agreed.
This would have been an ideal opportunity to apologise to the workforce and the Scottish people for the decision of Margaret Thatcher’s defence secretary, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, to transfer jobs from Rosyth to Davenport, which was seen at the time as an act of political expediency.
