Cleaning up act

Extending the recently introduced squatters law to Scotland and adding travellers to the scope of the legislation would produce an immediate solution to a problem that is a national embarrassment.

If the law enforced travellers to make good any damage done on sites and pay for all clearing of rubbish, then the travellers’ problem would soon be a part of history.

There is a clear remit for Holyrood to introduce laws that deal with real, nitty-gritty problems facing the people of Scotland rather than skirting the issues and leaving underfunded local authorities to deal with national problems.
