Chief concern

I understand that applicants for the position of Chief Constable for Scotland must have had two years’ experience as a Chief Constable in order to apply; this excludes those academic “young guns” who could bring a new
dimension to policing in Scotland.

It would be much better to allow Assistant Chief Constables and above – who have around ten years’ service left in a force – to apply for the position and to undergo a psychological assessment covering personality, ability, intelligence, interest and
attitudes.
