Cheaper alone

In complaining about the cost of establishing Scottish 
organisations to replace British entities upon independence, 
C Craig (Letters, 29 August), 
forgets that Scottish taxpayers will save at least £400 million as their share of refurbishing the Palace of Westminster at an 
estimated cost of £3 billion over five years.

This is on top of our pro rata savings on the annual £500m costs to run the House of Commons and House of Lords, which will be even higher if the Liberal Democrat plans to reform the House of Lords ever see the light of day.
