All’s well for SNP

The decision by Chancellor George Osborne to slash a
further £10 billion from the welfare budget, while perhaps
necessary in these troubled
financial times, may have very unfortunate and unforeseen side effects, not only on those
currently in receipt of these benefits, but also on the coalition government.

It may even push Scotland ever closer to the misplaced and false, rosy-tinted haven of independence in these pre-referendum times.

His action is an absolute gift to the SNP which not only can claim that this is nothing to do with it, but, by inference, that this would not happen should Scotland be independent.

This is, of course, sheer vote-grabbing hypocrisy of the worst sort. The SNP knows perfectly well these cuts have to be made.

Anyone who thinks that, somehow, should independence ever happen, money would suddenly rush into the public, (ie benefits) sector is due a very rude awakening indeed but meantime the SNP can sail along merrily assuring anyone who will listen: “Trust us, it will all
be fine.”
