All gas, I fear

Tom Ballantine of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland is “disappointed that the Scottish Government has failed to take the necessary action to ensure the emission reduction targets are delivered” (Platform, 18 October).

Can I ask Mr Ballantine what he intends to do when countries with 85.7 per cent of world emissions and 92 per cent of world population have increased their CO2 and their economy with not the slightest intention of reducing emissions? What sanctions will he impose on Germany, India and China?

Germany is opening 23 coal-fired power plants, India 455 and China is opening one new plant every week. There are now 1,231 coal-fired plants proposed worldwide. A lot of CO2.

Does Mr Ballantine really think that Stop Climate Chaos, and Scotland – with a meagre 0.15 per cent of global emissions – can “save the planet”?
