Letter: Suicide counts

THE number of men who have died by their own hands (Letters, 16 July) far exceeds those that have been killed on active service in Afghanistan.

The number of UK military and civilian fatalities killed in action or who died of wounds from March 2010 to 30 June 2011 was 98.

There is much media coverage of the deaths of service personnel killed in action in Afghanistan but very little media interest in the colossal numbers of men who die by their own hands in Scotland.
