Letter: Snare trap

Your report "Animal welfare at the heart of new guide for setting snares" (21 September) is quite, frankly, delusional. Anyone who sets a wire noose, which tightens on impact to trap an animal, is by no stretch of the imagination acting in the animal's best interests and is certainly not concerned with animal welfare.

Snares are primitive, outdated forms of predator control which are so basic in their design that the chances of animals not suffering horrific injuries are remote.

We should be using the opportunities within the Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill to legislate against these traps rather than wasting time trying to convince the public that new guidelines on their use will make the slightest difference to animal welfare.
