Letter: Evolving religion
While it is sad the Methodists have had to sell their Central Hall in Edinburgh (your report, 1 September), the cycle of church life goes on (with the media failing to keep up).
Methodism did, indeed, flourish in its earlier days of "fiery Wesleyan sermons", but it has since tended towards traditionalism and liberal theology, losing its spiritual dynamism in the process. Meanwhile, newer networks of churches within and outside the main denominations, presenting Christian truth confidently and enthusiastically, are rising up, taking the place of declining churches.
