Britain today: Cameron 'held Sky talks with Murdoch'

DAVID Cameron is facing fresh pressure over claims he had discussions about the controversial Murdoch bid to take full control of BSkyB.

The Prime Minister sidestepped repeated questions in the Commons but Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt later appeared to confirm conversations had been held.

Tall people in cancer risk

TALLER people have an increased risk of cancer, including of the bowel, breast, kidney and brain, experts say.

The largest study of its kind on the issue found around a 16 per cent increased risk of cancer with each additional 4in (10.2cm) of height.

The study covered more than one million women.

'Pringle' and theatre in design awards battle

THE Olympic Velodrome building - dubbed "the Pringle" - will take on the Royal Shakespeare Company's new theatre complex as they compete for the UK's top architecture award.

They are among six structures on the shortlist for the Royal Institute of British Architects Stirling Prize 2011, which was announced today.

Also up for the 20,000 award are a school and an office block in London and a cultural centre in Derry.

ALMOST half of UK holidaymakers buy counterfeit goods when abroad, often after being duped into believing they were saving money on branded handbags, clothes and other items, according to a new report.

Research by online shopping comparison website Kelkoo showed that Spain, Turkey, Thailand, Greece and China were the most popular destinations to buy fakes.

Fab honour for Saunders

COMEDY actress Jennifer Saunders was set to don cap and gown today as the Ab Fab star picked up an honorary doctorate.

Saunders, 53, who has recently been treated for breast cancer, was to collect the award from Edge Hill University in Lancashire.

Stockport: A nurse arrested on suspicion of the murder of three patients remained in police custody today. Rebecca Leighton, 27, was arrested yesterday at her home in Stockport, Greater Manchester, just a mile from Stepping Hill Hospital, where she worked and where the deaths took place.

Wiltshire: The bodies of two soldiers killed in Afghanistan were set to be repatriated to the UK today. Lance Corporal Paul Watkins, 24, and Corporal Mark Palin, 32, were being flown to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire and his funeral cortege was to pass through Wootton Bassett.
