Leithers swing in favour of more play areas for the Links

BETTER children's play parks have polled top in a survey of what Leithers want in their community.

Residents opted to have improved areas for youngsters on Leith Links, instead of introducing more bowling and cricket facilities in the area.

The findings form part of the Leith Links Ask report, where residents were questioned over what their preferences were for Leith Links, based on ten projects planned for the area.

Children's play areas were top of the list for the 550 people who answered, with gardens in second place, a pavilion cafe in third and cricket facilities tenth.

The survey was conducted by environmental group Greener Leith. Its findings will be discussed next Tuesday at the council's Leith Neighbourhood Partnership meeting, where a funding strategy to deliver the higher priority projects will be looked into.

Local groups also intend to examine low cost actions on Leith Links that could be implemented without great expense, including removing graffiti.
