TWO men have been arrested after an alleged rape and a sexual assault 30 minutes and six miles apart in Edinburgh.

The separate incidents took place in public areas of Edinburgh on November 13.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly raping a woman at knifepoint in a in Leith Links around 1am on Thursday morning.

Another man, 24, was arrested after an alleged serious sexual assault near the Morrisons supermarket on Gilmerton Road around 1.30 am on Thursday morning.

Both men are due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff court on Monday.

“The incident was carried out in a public area and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in or around Leith Links in the early hours of Thursday morning and saw anything suspicious.”

A police spokesman said of the two separate incidents: “A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a sexual assault in Gilmerton Road on Thursday, November 13.

“He is scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, November 17.”

He added: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious sexual assault in Leith Links on Thursday, November 13.

“He is scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, November 17.”
