A package discovered in a Leith bar that was destroyed by a bomb disposal unit last night contained no suspicious material, police have confirmed.

A controlled explosion was carried out on an envelope that turned out to contain paper.

The building on The Shore in Leith, Edinburgh, was evacuated and a cordon put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident at around 8.30pm last night.

Police Scotland said that the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team attended and safely disposed of the package.

The force has launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman said: “Inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist officers with their investigations are asked to come forward immediately.”
