Latest news: Personal details stolen from old folk's home

SAFES containing keys and the personal details of elderly residents have been stolen from a sheltered housing complex.

Two men broke into Laura Fergusson Court, in Craigmount Brae, during the early hours of March 26 and made off with the safes from an office.

The first was recovered by police but the second, which contained petty cash and the back-up tapes for the complex's IT system, has still to be found.

Peter Mountford-Smith, of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association, which owns the complex, said: "It is the view of the police that the petty cash was the likely target of the burglary.

"However, as a housing association and as an employer, Margaret Blackwood holds information on the computer system which is of a personal nature and we are taking the theft of these tapes seriously."
