Language school discovers the meaning of success

THE co-founder of Scotland's largest provider of English language courses for foreign students was last night named as the winner of the most enterprising business award at the annual awards ceremony of the Association of Scottish Businesswomen (ASB) in Aberdeen.

Jennifer Hallwood is head of TEFL Scotland, the largest provider of teaching English as a foreign language courses in Scotland. A spokeswoman for the association said: "Jennifer scooped the award for most enterprising business after demonstrating to the judges her ability to both recognise opportunity and new markets, beyond the obvious, and the ability, not only to build a credible business, but show creativity and resourcefulness in building a successful business."

Find Me Glasgow, a unique online directory for residents and visitors, which was founded by Gillian Dick in April 2009, was awarded the young business of the year accolade.

The winner of the award for outstanding contribution to business was Eileen Auld of Largs-based Well Connected, a company which promotes success in golf, education, business and personal performance.

The Employee of the Year Award went to Kathryn Taylor of Paramount Care, and the Woman of Achievement award went to Margo McDonald MSP.
