Land deal sealed for Sick Kids car park

NHS Lothian has sealed the purchase of land for three plots which will allow development at the Little France site.

The deal means work can begin on a car park for the new Sick Kids hospital, and allow health chiefs to begin discussions on other future projects at the 1 billion BioQuarter.

Director of capital planning and projects, Iain Graham, said: "Ensuring the necessary and appropriate infrastructure and traffic management systems are in place to support the new hospital is a vital stage in the planning process for the new children's hospital. We are delighted to have successfully concluded our negotiations with Scottish Enterprise to secure these plots."

The deal is crucial to the Sick Kids because the proposed new hospital will be built on what is currently the Royal Infirmary's main car park.

Without creating the spaces lost from that, the hospital would not be able to go ahead.

The deal is one of several major development plans ongoing in NHS Lothian.

The new Midlothian Community Hospital will be completed later this year, while work has also begun on the new Royal Victoria hospital.
